Stay Cyber Aware this Cybersecurity Month & Beyond
Cyber threats are continuously evolving and becoming more sophisticated, and it is our goal to remain knowledgeable of potential risks to protect our clients and relocating customers. For our team members, we build awareness through targeted training and internal phishing simulations. This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we are sharing ways Altair Global stays secure as well as tips for your personal cyber security.
Altair: Clickproofing our Crew
Altair takes proactive steps to stay cyber-aware, focusing on making ourselves as knowledgeable as possible about the dynamic risk environment to strengthen our defenses. As part of our commitment to our core values of being accountable, approachable, and authentic, Altair has been actively enhancing our cybersecurity framework through targeted training and internal phishing simulations.
We send monthly simulated phishing emails to all team members, and all team members undergo quarterly, mandatory training to be able to better spot emails or texts that seem, well, fishy. These simulated phishing emails are designed by leveraging existing, real-world attack examples to keep our team members trained on, and aware of, emerging threats. When team members come across these emails, reporting – or a failure to report – a given simulated phishing email is recorded, with the results used to inform more specialized training. Additionally, Altair recognizes those who successfully report phishing attempts at the end of each month.
Ongoing educational initiatives, coupled with regular phishing tests, are crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of our training, encouraging vigilant behavior, and, ultimately, reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding privacy and security at every level.
Train, Train, and Train Some More
No organization can play it too safe when it comes to cybersecurity, and Altair continues to adapt, learn, and stay vigilant. Team members undergo realistic phishing and business email handling trainings every quarter, promoting alertness and responsibility. These training modules are tracked and mandatory, with additional support and training provided to team members who struggle with monthly simulated phishing tests. New hires are required to complete all training modules from the last calendar year within three weeks of their hire date. These modules consist of formal training videos, as well as engaging videos and quizzes to catch them up to speed and reinforce understanding.
Additionally, all Altair team members complete two to three annual training modules related to non-phishing topics such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), personally identifiable information (PII) handling, and other regulatory compliance frameworks. Completion of these longer, more formal compliance training modules is also mandatory and tracked. Our resolve to protect privacy and security remains steadfast in the face of an ever-evolving threat landscape. We take this duty seriously, driven by the understanding that the trust placed in us by those we serve is both a privilege and a profound responsibility.
Keep Yourself Safe
It’s important to keep our organization safe, but it takes partnership and collaboration to ensure that everyone’s personal information remains secure. Get a head start on becoming more cyber-safe and cyber-aware with these tips:
Secure your accounts by using two-factor authentication
Protect your web browsing with a VPN and beware of free Wi-Fi
Set a strong password
Reduce your digital footprint
Utilize antivirus software on your computer
Keep up with software updates on your devices and devices (nothing sketchy!)
Shred personal documents
If You Get Hacked
Unfortunately, to err is human, and, despite best efforts, being breached is still a possibility. Learn what to do in the event that you or your devices are compromised by reviewing this guidance from the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre:
Directly contact the account provider of any account you suspect has been breached
Check your email account for suspicious incoming or outgoing messages
Immediately change the password of any account you suspect may have been breached
Log out of all devices and apps
Set up 2-step verification
Update your devices
Notify contacts that your accounts may have been breached (a risk to you is a risk to them!)
Check bank statements and online shopping accounts for suspicious transactions
